How CO2 jets work and what gas they need

A CO2 jet releases pressurised liquid CO2 through a nozzle, which expands and cools instantly into the visible white plume associated with club drops and festival stages. The machine requires liquid CO2 from a siphon or dip-tube cylinder specifically — a standard gas-phase cylinder cannot supply the liquid the machine needs and will not produce a usable plume.

Stage jets are DMX-controlled and mounted in fixed positions for programmed cues that sync with music and lighting, making them the standard for club installs and touring productions — often programmed alongside confetti cannons on the same cue. Handheld CO2 guns are manually triggered and designed for a DJ or host to fire directly into the crowd, similar in impact to cold spark machines but gas-based rather than powder-based.
